"Vancouver's classic 1935 cinema, West Broadway's Hollywood Theatre, is threatened with imminent demolition. This threat has lead to the formation of a group of concerned residents dedicated to saving this important cultural & historical site.
"In this brief overview, Save the Hollywood Theatre Coalition spokesperson Terry Martin discusses the aims of the group, and how saving the Hollywood could benefit everyone in the neighbourhood - residents, local business people, movie & music fans & the owner alike."
As Tyee contributing editor put it in a recent story in the Georgia Straight:
"Maybe there will be a Hollywood ending to this movie, where the plucky community wins the heart of [the new owners]. Maybe the theatre won't be taken over by an American fitness chain after all. It will be just like Local Hero.
Stay tuned for the final act...
