Tsunami advisory for parts of BC coast

The 8.8 earthquake in Japan has triggered a tsunami advisory for parts of the British Columbia coast.

At 1:50 a.m. the Provincial Emergency Program issued "Tsunami Advisory BC Bulletin Number 002":

A LARGE EARTHQUAKE HAS OCCURRED IN THE PACIFIC BASIN NEAR JAPAN. THE WEST COAST ALASKA TSUNAMI WARNING CENTRE HAS RAISED THE ALERT STATUS TO ADVISORY FOR THE FOLLOWING ZONES OF COASTAL BRITISH COLUMBIA:

ZONE A - THE NORTH COAST AND THE HAIDA GWAII ISLANDS

ZONE B - THE CENTRAL COAST INCLUDING BELLA BELLA, BELLA COOLA AND SHEARWATER

ZONE C - THE OUTER WEST COAST OF VANCOUVER ISLAND FROM CAPE SCOTT TO PORT RENFREW

... NO OTHER AREAS OF COASTAL BRITISH COLUMBIA ARE AT RISK. REPEAT, NO OTHER AREAS OF COASTAL BRITISH COLUMBIA ARE AT RISK.
