The Hook: Political news, freshly caught

B.C.'s incoming premier meets with caucus to begin Liberal mending process

After a hard-fought leadership campaign, B.C.'s premier designate begins the mending process today as she meets with her Liberal government caucus for the first time.

Christy Clark had the support of only one caucus member, Harry Bloy, while most of the Liberals in the legislature openly backed either George Abbott or Kevin Falcon.

Clark has already spoken to former caucus members Blair Lekstrom and Bill Bennett, who now sit as Independents

Lekstrom, who left over the harmonized sales tax, says he wants to come back to caucus and help move the province forward.

Deputy premier Colin Hansen says the leadership campaign was busy for everyone, and it will be good to get back to work.

Hansen, who also serves as ministers of health and finance, says the caucus is excited to welcome the new premier.
