Grouse to be home of NBC's Today

If birds of a feather flock together, then the Peacock Network and Grouse Mountain are a natural fit.

NBC's Today Show will broadcast live from the North Vancouver resort's Peak Chalet daily from 4 a.m. to 8 a.m. Pacific during the 2010 Winter Olympics. The public will be invited to get up early, travel the famous Skyride and watch hosts Meredith Vieira, Matt Lauer, Al Roker and Ann Curry.

NBC made the announcement Wednesday, six months before the Games open Feb. 12, 2010.

"The value is priceless, we don't know what the attention will generate in terms of future visits, beyond the Games," said Grouse Mountain spokesman William Mbaho.

Today is going for a natural theme at Vancouver 2010. Its Beijing 2008 set was near the Bird's Nest stadium. The historic 17th century Piazza San Carlo in Torino's old town was the 2006 location.

Grouse will open around the clock during the Games and showcase its energy-generating wind turbine.

"The people that are going to be visiting at that time will be flying in from different time zones," Mbaho said.

"We wanted to be open around the clock for anyone who wanted to come as a snow enthusiast to experience winter at any time of day."
