NDP want RCMP to probe Kinsella

The NDP has requested RCMP investigate Patrick Kinsella.

This, after the provincial Liberals' most powerful backroom boy refused to "consent to any investigation or reporting" by the lobbyists' registrar.

In June, the registrar launched a review of Kinsella's interactions with the Campbell administration.

Kinsella has never registered as a lobbyist. And he's denied ever lobbying the government.

But a payday loan company executive told 24 hours and The Tyee he hired Kinsella to do lobbying work. Earlier records obtained by 24 hours also show Kinsella's government relations firm helped win major contracts and benefits for foreign and business interests.

And those records also show Kinsella had scheduled meeting with one government minister.

As a result of coverage in 24 hours and The Tyee, the NDP requested Loukidelis review Kinsella.

But, in a letter sent to the registrar, Kinsella's legal counsel, Paul Cassidy, states his client won't cooperate with that review because the registrar lacks the "authority" to conduct such a review.

In response, NDP attorney general critic Leonard Krog says, "If Mr. Loukidelis can't investigate, then it leaves the Opposition no choice but to ask the RCMP to investigate the information surrounding Kinsella's activities."
