The Hook: Political news, freshly caught

CARTOON: Adrian Dix's attack ad strategy

The B.C. New Democrats' April Fools ad will apparently be the party's only attack ad this provincial election. And the target of that ad, of course, is NDP leader Adrian Dix himself. Check out the spoof here.

Earlier in the campaign, Dix promised not to use negative ads. And he has stuck to his word, at least so far. But don't let this cartoon, which passed through The Tyee's desk today, make you think Dix intends to hold his tongue. The BC NDP website has plenty to say about the government’s shortcomings.

And with the resignation of NDP candidate Dayleen van Ryswyk this morning, it's clear the BC Liberals won't be holding back this election season either. Dix accepted the Kelowna-Mission candidate's resignation after a BC Liberal press release surfaced comments Ryswyk made in an online forum about First Nations people. In the release, BC Liberal Langley incumbent Mary Polak called on Dix to terminate Ryswyk's candidacy.
