The Hook: Political news, freshly caught

EKOS projects 100 seats for the NDP

The polling organization EKOS today projected that the New Democrats next Monday will win 100 seats in the 41st Parliament.

The projection also predicted 131 seats for the Conservatives, 62 for the Liberals, and 14 for the Bloc Quebecois. One seat would go to "Other" and the Green Party would gain nothing.

The breakdown, based on polling done between April 22 and 24, forecasts 15 Conservatives in B.C., with 8 Liberals and 13 New Democrats.

In Quebec, EKOS projects 4 Conservative seats, 3 Liberals, 14 Bloc, and 53 New Democrats. In its comments, EKOS said:

Looking at these seat projections, the NDP and the Liberal Party combined would have a majority and 31 more seats than the Conservatives (as well as nearly 20 more points in popular vote). Indeed, it is hard to imagine how these totals would not produce the once unimaginable outcome of a Jack Layton led coalition government deposing Stephen Harper’s Conservative government.
