Byelection set for May 11 in Vancouver-Point Grey

Premier Christy Clark has called a byelection for May 11 in Vancouver-Point Grey, the seat that came open when former premier Gordon Campbell resigned.

Clark said Monday that she intends to run in that constituency.

The premier had six months from Campbell's March 15 resignation date to call the byelection. The government announced last week that the legislature will sit from April 27 to June 2, so a win would make it possible for Clark to take a seat in the legislature before the session closes.

The executive director of the B.C. Civil Liberties Association, David Eby, has said he intends to seek the nomination for the BC NDP, a party spokesperson said. The party has also held an extensive search for a candidate and the official nomination meeting will be held early next week, he said.
