Pro-cannabis activist Dana Larsen is staying in the race to lead the British Columbia New Democratic Party, but says his supporters should pick Juan de Fuca MLA John Horgan second.
"After spending three months on the campaign trail with all the candidates, I've had a chance to see how party members, the media and the public react to their policies and personalities," Larsen said in an emailed statement. "I believe John Horgan has the populist charisma to win the next provincial election."
Horgan, who picked up former leadership candidate Nicholas Simons' support yesterday, welcomed Larsen's endorsement in a separate statement. "I’ve gotten to know them, and I am pleased that they have decided to support my positive campaign to become leader of the NDP,” he said.
The NDP will choose a new leader on April 17, with advance voting by preferential ballot open from April 11 to 16.
Vancouver-Kingsway MLA Adrian Dix and Port Coquitlam MLA Mike Farnworth are also running and considered, with Horgan, to be the front runners.
