Mustel poll gives BC NDP eight point lead over Liberals

A poll the Mustel Group released today gives the British Columbia NDP an eight percent lead over the BC Liberals with the BC Conservatives trailing.

The poll puts the NDP at 42 percent, the Liberals at 34 percent, the Conservatives at 17 percent and the Green party at six percent. It gave the NDP the lead in Metro Vancouver and Metro Vancouver and found the Conservatives strongest support in the Interior.

The poll surveyed 518 randomly selected adults between March 5 and 19 by telephone. The margin of error was plus or minus 4.3 percent, with 95 percent confidence. Seventeen percent of respondents were undecided.

The poll is more favourable to the BC Liberals than other recent surveys have been. A Forum Research poll conducted using an interactive voice response system on March 19 found support for the NDP at 47 percent with the BC Liberals and BC Conservatives tied at 21 percent each and the Greens at nine percent. The sample for the Forum poll was 1,063, double the size of Mustel's.

In February Angus Reid found 42 percent would support the NDP, 28 percent the Liberals, 19 percent the Conservatives and 10 percent the Greens.

Another Angus Reid poll released this morning put Premier Christy Clark's approval rating at 33 percent, the second lowest of any Canadian premier behind only Quebec's Jean Charest.
