Green Party Leader Jane Sterk told delegates to the Union of British Columbia convention that she envisions a strong role for local governments.
"In our mind, the most important level of government is the local government," she said to wide applause. "We trust that you can do the job and you'll do it well."
Sterk spoke for five minutes following a speech by Canadian Heritage Minister James Moore. She took the stage as reporters left the room to scrum the minister, but joked that she was going to stop taking the lack of attention personally.
She said she's hopeful that provincial voters will elect a minority government with Greens and independents holding the balance of power and acting as a constructive force.
