The alleged kidnapper of three-year-old Kienan Hebert has been apprehended in Alberta this morning. CTV reports a RCMP K-9 dog team from Kelowna was responsible for capturing Randall Peter Hopley near Crowsnest Pass.
Kienan Hebert disappeared on September 5th from the community of Sparwood, B.C. and an Amber Alert was issued throughout the province.
The toddler was returned to the family home early Sunday morning while the family was staying elsewhere. Details are still vague as to how someone could return Kienan to the Hebert home undetected. After being examined at a hospital, Kienan was reported to be unharmed and showed no signs of physical abuse.
Randall Peter Hopley, who was convicted of sexual assault in the 1980’s, was named the main suspect in the kidnapping by the RCMP and was tracked after Kienan’s return.
According to media reports, Hopley has a record of criminal activity, including a break-in in 2007 in Sparwood and attempted abduction of a person under 16 years of age, although the latter charge was later dropped.
