Tory MP to vote NDP, predicts BC Conservative resurgence

Federal Tory MP John Cummins said he will vote for the NDP in tomorrow's election and predicts a post-election shift of provincial Liberal voters to the B.C. Conservatives.

"What I think we're going to see after this provincial election is a resurgence of the provincial Conservative party," the MP from Delta-Richmond East told Public Eye Radio yesterday.

"I think there's a lot of people very upset with Mr. Campbell - very upset the Liberal party has let him get away with this policy making on the fly. And there are people that seem to think very clearly that there should be an alternative," he said.

"Post-election I think that you're going to see a good number of federal Conservatives moving to a new (provincial) Conservative party."

Later, in response to a separate question, Cummins also stated, "I see in Mr. Campbell and the policies that he's espousing long-range damage to the province - to the future of this province. I see policies which this province can ill-afford to proceed with. And I think that it has to be stopped."

In an earlier email circulated by Save Our Rivers Society spokesperson Rafe Mair, Cummins stated he couldn't "support Gordon Campbell's Liberals in this provincial election."

And in an interview with The Delta Optimist's Sandor Gyarmati he announced his support for independent Delta South candidate Vicki Huntington.

Yesterday, Cummins said in his own riding he will vote for the NDP.

"I live in North Delta," Cummins said. "And Guy Gentner is the NDP candidate here - there is a Conservative candidate. But I think Guy might be in for a tough run. And he's got my support. I think you have to look at each riding. The Conservatives have some very, very good candidates and some not so good. But I think you have to look at the riding - you have to make a determination on what the best is to cast your ballot and go with it."
