The Hook: Political news, freshly caught

B.C. provincial Conservatives launch legal battle

The B.C. Conservative Party appears to be fighting a takeover bid. Today the party issued a news release:

The legal action alleges that this group wrongfully held a meeting and purported to take over the affairs of the Party and are continuing to illegally claim to represent the BC Conservative Party. It will ask the Court to clarify that they are not directors or officers of the BC Conservative Party and have no legal right to operate, using the name of the BC Conservative Party.

“We have obtained advice from the lawyer for the BC Conservative Party that the actions of these people were not lawful,” said Hanni.

“We expect this to be confirmed by a judge in a court of law and we strongly encourage those involved to save themselves the costs of litigation by taking all necessary steps to undo the harm they have caused.”

The Party is seeking a cease and desist order, forbidding these individuals from claiming to be officers of the Party, an order forcing them to undo the damage they have done and an order forcing them to pay the legal costs of the BC Conservative Party.
