The Hook: Political news, freshly caught

Tyee Builders headed to 'Your Kontinent' festival

One of the best things about summer is festivals. (Obviously....)

Even better? Free summer festivals!

Yesterday we chose at random two Tyee Builders from Richmond, B.C., to each receive full festival passes (value: $60 each) to Your Kontinent, the Richmond International Film & Media Arts Festival, July 19-27 at the Richmond Cultural Centre.

The two winners, Builders #116 and #255, wish to remain anonymous. But anonymity won't stop us from acknowledging their support. You know who you are, and we at The Tyee sincerely thank you, and all Tyee Builders, for your ongoing contributions.

Co-presented by Cinevolution Media Arts Society and the City of Richmond, the third annual Your Kontinent festival "is a community-wide celebration of intercultural connectivity and progressive global perspectives through the medium of independent film and multidisciplinary artistic practice," according to festival organizers. This year's line-up includes films, artists and workshops from Canada and around the world, including featured Aboriginal multimedia artist Dana Claxton and international artist Pisui Ciyo.

Nearly 600 Tyee Builders contribute small monthly amounts to amp up The Tyee's reporting budget. These committed readers keep The Tyee paywall-free and ensure hard-hitting, independent journalism is published six days a week, every week of the year.

Want to support The Tyee and qualify for upcoming Builder-only giveaways like this one? (We've got a few weekend passes to the Vancouver Folk Festival and three very cool looking festivals in Portland up for grabs in the coming weeks.) Just sign up to become a Builder for as little as $5/month, and your name will be in all future draws.

Thanks to all 590 of our generous Tyee Builders for your ongoing support. We couldn't do it without you.
