The results of the B.C. provincial election are slowly but surely rolling in. Moving at a much quicker pace are the David Eby supporters piling into his campaign party at Nuba restaurant in Kitsilano.
Perhaps the most anticipated election campaign in the Lower Mainland, Eby, former executive director of the BC Civil Liberties Association, is taking on current Premier Christy Clark. Clark, the incumbent in Vancouver-Point Grey, narrowly beat out Eby in a 2011 byelection.
Volunteers and supporters like Eric Vaniersel describe themselves as "cautiously optimistic" about Eby's chances.
"He's the best candidate possible. A man of principle we've supported over the years," he said, referring to himself and his wife, who went to law school with Eby.
Former NDP MLA David Chudnovsky is also at the party, taking in the results after an afternoon knocking on doors for Eby in Point Grey. He feels a distinct difference in the air compared to the 2009 election.
"I have a sense that people have had enough of the Liberals, Campbell's Liberals and Christy Clark's Liberals," he said.
"They're looking for something different, [a government that] focuses on equality, justice, and respect."
