The Hook: Political news, freshly caught

VIDEO: Dix sounds off as Liberal attack ad slams him over '35' excuse

New BC Liberal attack ad released today.

The latest BC Liberal attack ad aimed at New Democrat Leader Adrian Dix says his creation of a fake document aimed at misleading a police investigation is wrong at any age.

The ad focuses on a statement by Dix during last week's leaders' debate, when he said that he took responsibility for forging a 1998 document for his boss, then-premier Glen Clark, but that he was 35 years old at the time.

In the ad, a number of young Liberals say they are under 35 and take responsibility for their actions.

One woman says Dix was trying to get off the hook by saying he was 35 while working for a premier who was 38 and that she wonders if any New Democrats took responsibility for their actions in the 1990s.

Dix called the ad another Liberal smear and says while he took responsibility for his actions, the Liberals continue to deny their mistakes on issues such as the HST, the growing debt, and a multicultural scandal in the premier's office.

Liberal Leader Christy Clark says the 13-year-old scandal around a memo written by her New Democrat rival is a legitimate issue for debate.
