Tyee nominated for CJF's Excellence in Journalism award

The Tyee is happy to announce our nomination for this year's Canadian Journalism Foundation's Excellence in Journalism Award, in the small media category.

The annual award is described as "one of the major journalistic awards of the year and the only national award given to a journalistic organization for overall extraordinary performance." The Tyee won the award in 2009.

Other nominees in the small media category this year include CBC New Brunswick, CP24, Turtle Island News, and the Vancouver Observer.

"It's extremely gratifying to see The Tyee receive this nomination and to be among such top notch company," said Tyee founding editor David Beers.

"The Tyee is a community of many creative people dedicated to demonstrating that excellent journalism can be produced and circulated via new and different models. Take a bow, Tyee community! This is big!"

Nominees for the large-media category include CBC News: Special Investigations Unit, The Current - CBC Radio One, Postmedia News, Toronto Star, and Winnipeg Press.

The winner will be announced at the Canadian Journalism Foundation awards ceremony on June 13, 2013.
