The Hook: Political news, freshly caught

Clark promises women's economic council as part of election campaign

B.C. Premier Christy Clark says she would create a council to advise her on economic issues relating to women if she wins the May 14 provincial election.

The Liberal leader made the announcement during a speech to members of the Women's Executive Network, where she boasted that the Liberals are running more female candidates than ever before.

Clark says the council will be made up of women who are leaders in various sectors, who will advise her of ways to make life easier for women running small businesses.

She says she hasn't decided precisely who would be on that council, whose members won't be paid.

NDP Leader Adrian Dix has announced his party would create a Ministry of Women’s Equality.

Clark dismisses the NDP's idea as another example of needless bureaucracy.
