There are many ways to celebrate Black History Month, among them watching this tribute to Vancouver's once-thriving black neighbourhood Hogan's Alley.
In the first half of the 1900s, the Strathcona community was home to black families, Southern-style restaurants, a black nightclub and jazz scene, and the city's only black church. The above clip produced by Black Strathcona remembers a few of the lively characters that animated the stretch of East Van, before much of it was bulldozed to make way for the Georgia Viaduct.
Check out nine other retellings of the neighbourhood's history here.
