Tyee Critic’s Choice: Pastoring a shrinking church in First Reformed.
It’s time for The Cinematheque’s season of Film Noir, a celebration of one of the American cinema’s richest and most creative (and most jaded and cynical) periods.
From Aug. 3 to 23 audiences can enjoy three sizzling weeks of crime, corruption, greed, cruelty, and despair! This year’s lineup includes greatest hits, rarely-revived treasures and a trio of classics (Out of the Past, Crossfire, and Macao) long out of commission in Canada. Don’t miss the opening night Courtyard Wingding on Fri., Aug. 3 with live entertainment, refreshments and Programmer's introduction to the haunting Out of the Past. Plus, special Film Noir triple bills on Aug. 4 and 5!
And, in this year’s Noir Sidebar, The Cinematheque spotlights the perhaps-surprising connections between this most influential of American film styles and the moody, angst-ridden cinema of Swedish maestro (and noir fan) Ingmar Bergman.
