The Story of East Van’s Community Crow in ‘Canuck and I’

A short-doc on the crow that loves public transit, fast food, and people.

Submitted by Tyee Staff, 31 Jul 2017

A crow named Canuck became a beloved East Vancouver character over the years after making headlines and surprising appearances in the community.

Canuck once stole a knife from a Vancouver police crime scene. He often rides the SkyTrain. He recently hung out at a McDonald’s for a while, trying to steal food from customers.

Canuck, identified by an orange zip-tie on one leg, is looked after by Shawn Bergman, who first encountered Canuck after his landlord’s son cared for the crow after he fell from a nest. They’ve been inseparable ever since.

A short documentary called Canuck and I tells Canuck’s story. It was supported by TELUS STORYHIVE.
