We asked you to help fund great election journalism. We set a target of $10,000.

Well, here's a big thank you to Tyee readers who’ve responded. We're already half way there, having just passed the $5000 mark.

That was fast! After all, it was just Monday our editor David Beers shared with you that an early provincial election is likely to be called, perhaps as soon as September. And that The Tyee needs your help to cover it best.

He asked you to tell us what news matters most to you, and to donate to help support Tyee journalists as they report on those issues.

Four days later, we're halfway to our goal. Let's kick it up a notch! What might $5,000 more allow us to do? Did you know they charge reporters $200 a day to get on the campaign busses and talk to the candidates who expect to lead the next government? We're determined, with your support, to put your questions to Christy Clark and Adrian Dix.

If you haven't already done so, you can vote and donate now by CLICKING HERE.

The donations in the Election Reporting Fund will go directly to pay for journalism on the issues you vote for.

So what is important to you? The HST and the economy? Fair politics and government? Childcare? Education? Poverty and homelessness? Or maybe you're concerned about another issue entirely. That's fine too -- just let us know what it is and we'll assign a reporter to cover it. You can click here to donate now.

Now that we've explained why we need your help and asked you (repeatedly) to give us money, we'd like to thank you. Thank you for reading us and for sharing our stories with your family and friends. Thank you for being a part of the Tyee community, for helping to spread the word about the quality of our work, and for making us a recognizable part of Canadian media.

And for those readers that have already donated, an additional thank you is in order for your contribution and for telling us what issues matter most to you. We know these are tight economic times not just for The Tyee, but for you as well. We are extremely grateful for any donation you can afford.

Already cast your vote? If you’re feeling extra dissatisfied with mainstream media, you're welcome to vote and donate a second time. Just click here.

Next week, we'll publish what issues are ranking highest for you who kindly give to The Tyee's Election Reporting Fund. Stay tuned. [Tyee]
