They want to be Vancouver's next mayor. First, they have to answer our questions.

On Oct. 5, join The Tyee and SFU Public Square for the Mayoral Mixer, a night that puts the people running to lead this city on centre stage. Tyee reporter Jen St. Denis and politics podcaster Mo Amir will mix it up with the candidates, serving up all the hottest election topics. From housing and development to public safety, AI data centres and city infrastructure, we’ll get the answers you’re craving.

Why call it a mixer? Because this will not be your standard election debate. Expect a lively evening, one that gives candidates room to spar over serious policy and show some personality while they're at it. There's no shortage of municipal election events this fall, but most are hosted by a single interest group or built around one issue, such as housing. This one is for everybody: a general civic conversation covering the full range of what's on voters' minds. Come for the substance, find some levity, and leave feeling more plugged into city politics.

The stakes are high. Vancouver has been governed by the ABC party since 2022, and the centre-right party has left its mark. This fall, voters decide whether ABC earns another mandate or whether it’s time for a change.

We currently have mayoral candidates confirmed from the Greens, TEAM for a Livable Vancouver and the Vancouver Liberals, with more details to come as the field firms up.

Mo Amir has been exuberantly exploring B.C. culture and politics since 2018 on his This Is Vancolour podcast, now in its sixth television season as a weekly talk show on CHEK News. He’s a frequent panellist on CBC’s On the Coast and writes opinion columns for The Tyee.

Jen St. Denis is an award-winning reporter and editor for The Tyee who has covered provincial and city politics, housing, the overdose crisis and justice.
