Final Day! Join The Tyee’s Year-End Builder Drive

Last call to get a 2025 tax receipt for supporting the independent journalism you read here.

Jeanette Ageson and David Beers 31 Dec 2025The Tyee

Jeanette Ageson is publisher of The Tyee. David Beers is the founding editor of The Tyee and editor-in-chief.

On Dec. 8, we set out an ambitious goal: bring on 750 new recurring supporters of our journalism to help our newsroom go hard in 2026.

We’re happy to report that as of today, 709 people have signed up for or increased their recurring support for our newsroom! And 533 people have also made one-time contributions.

Tonight is our deadline for this drive. If you’ve been thinking of signing up for a monthly or annual contribution to The Tyee’s journalism, now is the perfect time. Go here to sign up.

As a reminder, The Tyee is a non-profit newsroom, and all the money we raise through our Tyee Builders program goes to paying for more independent, original journalism.

We are now a registered journalism organization. This means that when you give to The Tyee, you’ll get an official receipt for income tax purposes, just like when you give to a charity. Today is the last day you can give and get a tax receipt for the 2025 year.

Revenue from our Tyee Builders program is our single largest source of income. So whatever we raise in these fundraising drives directly affects what we’re able to do. It means the difference between being able to grow our newsroom and having to cut back on our staff. Between being able to pay for access-to-information requests and revealing fewer truths. Between diving deeper and surface looks at complex events shaping our lives.

We’ve rolled out many new reporting initiatives with the support of our Tyee Builders. For 2026 we aim to launch the Reality Check project, which focuses on misinformation with expert partners from across Canada. But we’ll need your support to make it a success.

Some people scratch their heads when they learn that about two per cent of people who visit The Tyee pay for it.

But we know that it’s always been the committed few who pave the way for a better world. Amazingly, that magic two per cent of Tyee readers who become Builder members make our whole operation possible.

Because of our Builders, everyone can read what we publish, no matter their financial realities. Paywalls, we have decided, defeat our goal of creating high-impact journalism shared equitably.

So please consider joining the Two Per Cent. Help The Tyee grow, reach more people, publish more solutions journalism and keep an important watchdog and accountability role alive in our communities.

Join Tyee Builders by midnight tonight and help us start 2026 on a strong footing.

Happy holidays, readers. Our comment threads will be closed until Jan. 5 to give our moderators a much-deserved break. See you in 2026! [Tyee]
