Tyee Poll: Do You Think a Non-Essential Travel Ban Should Be Enforced in BC?

B.C. and much of Canada is experiencing a third wave of COVID-19, driven by the new variants.

Despite B.C.'s "circuit breaker" banning indoor dining and closing gym facilities through the May long weekend, the government is facing increasing criticism for its approach.

B.C. Premier John Horgan previously said he had ruled out a non-essential travel ban, but has now pivoted to putting a public health order banning non-essential travel into effect.

With forthcoming regulations, current non-essential travel restrictions in B.C. will be enforced similarly to those in countries like New Zealand, where measures such as roadblocks are used to regulate drivers attempting to travel to and from a region. The boundaries are to be based on health authority.

With this in mind, we want to ask:

Do you think a non-essential travel ban should be enforced in BC?
