Stop. Don't read any further.
First scroll down this page and find the boxed list in the right sidebar with the header "Reported Elsewhere."
This is where we list interesting stories published by other sources we think you should read. Our editors scour the Internet and update the list every day.
We do this in the hopes it will round out your daily news experience and make our website that much more useful. And we do it because we're a bunch of news geeks who enjoy this sort of thing.
In that vein, we got to thinking that the news geeks among you might enjoy doing it with us. (And if you're this far into this story, yes, there's a good chance you're one of us, friend. Sorry.)
What we're thinking is this:
1. Read something online.
2. Decide whether other Tyee-sters might find it interesting (criteria, or lack thereof, below).
3. Tweet @TyeeTeam and include the hashtag "#TyeeReads" and a link to the story.
That's it.
Every day our crack editorial team (and by that, we mean, at the moment, Ben Christopher -- @BenCAbbr) will scan the suggestions and post the most interesting and news-appropriate of the bunch.
In fact, all you have to remember is "#TyeeReads" and he'll find the tweet. He's a pro that way.
What's our criteria?
We're indiscriminate about which publications show up in the list -- Sun Media? Sure. Vancouver Sun? Why not? Xinhua? Welcome, friend. A link to someone's blog that puts a news event in unique perspective? Love it.
Our only criteria is that the information is significant, interesting, new, funny, or forehead smackingly ridiculous (See again: Sun Media).
In short, there's more of you than of us. And you're much smarter than us. (Pandering, yes, but it's true -- there's wisdom in your numbers.) Plus, the hashtag might even give us a place to kibbitz with each other about the best stories of the day, or discuss our Reported Elsewhere choices.
So, send us your #TyeeReads tweets and we'll make beautiful Reported Elsewhere lists together.
