Final Day! Make The Tyee’s Spring Member Drive a Success

We’re racing to our goal for new supporters. We’re also counting current Builders who top up what you give. Now’s the moment!

Jeanette Ageson is publisher of The Tyee.

On May 25, we set out an ambitious goal: bring on 650 new or upgraded recurring contributions to support the work of our newsroom.

We’re happy to report that as of today, 434 people have signed up for or increased their recurring support for our newsroom! And hundreds more have given one-time contributions.

Tonight is our deadline for this drive. If you’ve been thinking of signing up for a monthly or annual contribution to The Tyee’s journalism, now is the perfect time. Go here to sign up: https://support.thetyee.ca.

If you’re already a recurring Tyee Builder member, you can log in to your secure account and increase your contribution there.

As a reminder, The Tyee is a non-profit newsroom, and all the money we raise through our Tyee Builders program goes to paying for more independent, original journalism. Reporting on pressing issues including climate change, the power of Big Tech, defeating disinformation, workers’ rights, government machinations and more. Holding power accountable while sharing emerging solutions so citizens can push for positive change. If you regularly read and find useful our work, please contribute your support.

We are now a registered journalism organization. This means that when you give to The Tyee, you’ll get an official receipt for income tax purposes, just like when you give to a charity.

Plus, if you sign up during this drive for a recurring contribution of at least $15 per month or $180, we’ll send you a snazzy Tyee hat, along with other goodies (if you want them).

Our Tyee Builders program is our single largest source of revenue. So whatever we raise in these fundraising drives directly impacts what we’re able to do. Funding from the Tyee Builders program has supported our expansion into podcasts, live events, reporting on the misinformation beat in our Reality Check project, and everything else our team of journalists achieves.

Our media ecosystem is constantly changing. All of us are dealing with a deluge of AI-generated slop online, and motivated networks of people aiming to sow distrust and peddle untruths. In The Tyee you have a committed group of humans who every day seek out what’s real and share what we learn with our readers.

Because of our Builders, everyone can read what we publish, no matter their financial realities. Paywalls, we have decided, defeat our goal of creating high-impact journalism shared equitably.

So please consider joining the thousands of people who fund public interest journalism. Help The Tyee grow, push harder and reach more people.

Join Tyee Builders by midnight tonight and help us hit our spring member goal. [Tyee]

Tyee Commenting Guidelines

Please note that email notifications for replies are not currently working due to a software issue which may be resolved in a future update.

Comments that violate guidelines risk being deleted, and violations may result in a temporary or permanent user ban. Maintain the spirit of good conversation to stay in the discussion and be patient with moderators. Comments are reviewed regularly but not in real time.

Do:

  • Be thoughtful about how your words may affect the communities you are addressing. Language matters
  • Keep comments under 250 words
  • Challenge arguments, not commenters
  • Flag trolls and guideline violations
  • Treat all with respect and curiosity, learn from differences of opinion
  • Verify facts, debunk rumours, point out logical fallacies
  • Add context and background
  • Note typos and reporting blind spots
  • Stay on topic

Do not:

  • Use sexist, classist, racist, homophobic or transphobic language
  • Ridicule, misgender, bully, threaten, name call, troll or wish harm on others or justify violence
  • Personally attack authors, contributors or members of the general public
  • Spread misinformation or perpetuate conspiracies
  • Libel, defame or publish falsehoods
  • Attempt to guess other commenters’ real-life identities
  • Post links without providing context
