What else can we say but thank you.
Early in December we told you our goal for the end of the year — to sign up 750 new recurring (either monthly or annual) Tyee Builders. And, wow, did you ever come through!
By midnight on Dec. 31, the number of people who either began or increased their recurring contribution to our newsroom had hit 911. And even after that official end date for our campaign, the ranks of these good folks keep growing. By yesterday the number stood at 935. That’s 25 per cent above our original goal!
Adding in one-time contributors, in total more than 1,770 Tyee readers have chosen to provide new support to independent journalism during our campaign.
Thanks to this great response, The Tyee will be able to fully launch its “Reality Check” project in 2026, uniting Tyee reporters with experts in exposing disinformation and educating how to navigate an increasingly toxic digital realm.
We’re running an example today, as our Tyee Reality Check partners at the Media Ecosystem Observatory explain the harms posed to young people by AI chatbots.
Fighting fakery with facts and battling lies with grounded context is a mission The Tyee carries on thanks to your support.
As a non-profit newsroom that operates without a paywall that would force people to pay to read our articles, fundraising drives like this are how we fuel our operations. It’s truly amazing how our readers continue to show up for us, and we don’t take your support for granted.
As members of The Tyee team explained in articles and emails during our drive, adding Builder members ensures The Tyee is well equipped to turn loose its journalists to cover critical issues in our region.
Our official campaign period is over, but of course, readers are welcome (and encouraged!) to sign up as contributing Tyee Builders at any time. We share your information with no one and you receive a tax deduction.
From everyone at The Tyee, we offer our deepest appreciation to our community of readers who help make our journalism happen. We couldn’t do it without you. ![]()
