Help Shape The Tyee’s Civic Election Reporting

We want to know what’s on your mind as BC voters head to the polls to elect mayors, councillors and school trustees.

On Oct. 17, British Columbians will go to the polls to elect mayors, councillors, school trustees, regional district representatives and other local government politicians who are responsible for everything from policing to urban planning to garbage pickup.

B.C. has 161 municipalities (including big cities such as Vancouver and Surrey, small towns like Creston, villages like Ashcroft and districts like New Hazelton) and dozens of regional districts and school boards. Even though municipal elections tend to get less attention and smaller voter turnouts than provincial and federal elections, we know our readers are particularly passionate about local politics. This is the level of government, after all, that determines whether your local pool will be replaced, how much new housing will be built and whether a bike lane will get added to a busy street.

At The Tyee, we like to provide a regional and a provincial view, although we’ll also be keeping close tabs on Vancouver. But no matter where you live in the province, we want to know the issues that matter most to you. Your responses to the survey below will influence how our small but mighty team of reporters covers this election.

A note on how to formulate your answers: Try providing a clear topic and posing questions a reporter might be able to answer. For example:

What can be done to fix...

Who are the key players behind...

What are the parties’ positions on...

What has been the human and financial cost of the policy to...

Who are some exciting voices on issues like...

We’re looking forward to hearing from you!
