Bring your young explorers to Science World during Green Month for some environmentally-themed fun (April 18 - May 17).

We know Tyee readers care about environmental issues: you've told us repeatedly that the environment is your top news concern when we've asked. So we thought it was a good fit to be media sponsors for Science World's upcoming Green Month (April 18 to May 17), and to bring you this contest in partnership with Vancity, Green Month's presenting sponsor.

So, parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles, favourite babysitters -- take note! Be the most popular grown up in the room and treat your favourite young explorers to a day of experiential play and learning during Science World's Green Month.

What will you win? How do you enter?

Three lucky entrants will each win a Science World Family Day Pass (valued at $77.50) AND a Vancity swag pack. The passes can be used anytime, and a "family" is any group of two adults (19+) and three kids/youth (three - 12; kids under three are free).

To enter, just go to The Tyee's special contest page and fill out the quick form. Contest ends Tuesday, April 16, so don't delay!

Please note that you do not have to be a Vancity member to enter or win. The Tyee will be randomly selecting three winners on Wednesday, April 17 and alerting them by email.

What goes on during Green Month?

In addition to Science World's regular exhibits and programming, there are a number of sustainability-themed highlights from April 18 - May 17. Here is an incomplete sample, with a full, regularly updated listing on Science World's website.

Ken Spencer Science Park: Science World has expanded its approach to learning outside to spark children's interest in environmental science. Watch an outdoor science show, learn about city farming, and discover the science of water, transportation, waste and energy.

Our World: Delve into how your choices create a sustainable future by exploring electricity, water consumption and waste. Learn how our everyday choices affect the world around us.

BC Green Games: This year's winning student solutions to green their schools and communities will be featured on the screens at the Peter Brown Family Centre Stage and in a photo gallery located on the first floor.

Centre Stage Show: Hot Stuff (10:20 a.m. daily): Live science show about climate change.

Science World After Dark (Friday, April 19, 7 p.m.-10 p.m.): Check out a live science show, do some upcycling, and visit Creativity in Motion: Springs, Sprockets and Pulleys. Upgrade your ticket to catch the OMNIMAX® film, Flight of the Butterflies, at 6 p.m. before special activities begin.

Vancity Members' Day: Members get 50 per cent off admission (Saturday, April 20).

Vancity Community Partner Weekends (April 20 & 21 and May 4 & 5, schedule TBA): Vancity's Community Engagement Specialist, Jessica Luc, describes these "community partner weekends" as an opportunity for Science World visitors -- as well as passers-by -- to learn from and play with a diverse range of sustainability-minded organizations and services who will be set up inside and outside of Science World.

"We've got lots of fun and useful activities from organizations that Vancity supports. From Recycling Alternatives setting up their Food Scraps Drop Spot and teaching about composting, to Computers For Schools doing hands-on demos about extending computers' lifespans and teaching about proper reuse and recycling, to Canadian Parks and Wilderness BC highlighting responsible ocean practices with a kids net-fishing game, to the BC Association of Farmers' Markets planting seeds and giving out 'I Love BC Farmers' tattoos, and lots lots more."

Woven art using natural materials with Sharon Kallis (Saturday, April 27)

Green Iron Scientist Competition (Saturday, May 11): One mystery recycled material, one mystery task, endless possible inventions!

Featured OMNIMAX® Films: Flight of the Butterflies and To The Arctic. Get a taste of the far north by watching this preview:

Clearly there's lots to do during Green Month, so put it in your calendar for sometime between April 18 and May 17 and we'll see you there.

And don't forget to enter the contest for one of three Science World Family Day Passes and Vancity swag pack here. [Tyee]
