The Victoria Times-Colonist says it will cease printing a Monday edition, effective June 22.
A story published in the Saturday edition and on its website says businesses around the world are facing challenging times and the Times Colonist is not immune. The newspaper says the cost of newsprint and staff salaries have presented the publication with unprecedented challenges as it begins its 151st year in the community.
The newspaper says it will cease publishing a Monday edition of the Times Colonist, starting June 22 but will increase content in the Tuesday and other editions.
The article says many North American newspapers have reduced their in-print editions, and several Canadian and U.S. newspapers have ceased publishing a Monday edition.
The Times Colonist is owned by a division of Canwest Global Communications.

The soon CanWest goes bankrupt
the better I'll like it. These are not "news" papers anymore. They are newsletters for their corporate friends, and, because we don't any anti-competitive laws to stop them, they have taken over all of the media in BC. We only see one view of the world through CanWest's eyes, that of the corporations and Gordon Campbell. No more articles on corruption, no more articles that say anything negative about their BC Liberal buddies, ever.
If/when they fail, it will be because they only speak to a minority in BC, and need to sell papers to a majority to be profitable. They will suffer from their own "dirty tricks" in the end...

Unfortunate for the workers at the times colonist
gamedev: I agree....
The Press in the United States, Britain and elsewhere are facing the same fates...The internet/faster collaboration have eaten away at big press. Now something that individuals can do on the internet. I wonder if reporters will start more free lance on internet news sites?
I guess the Times Colonist was the first to take a hit, they don't have the same reader base as the Vancouver Sun and the Globe...When will they be cutting back?

If the price of newsprint is
If the price of newsprint is so high how come Pulp and Paper mills are shutting down like Elk Falls in Campbell River cuz they can't get a good price for their product? Staff wages are too high? Jeez, how much does the higher-ups at Canwest central get? Yep, the same ol' blame game by the spin-doctor department; if it weren't for the greedy workers, everything would be just fine and dandy and everyone would be farting in silk.

How about Greedy Capitalist Pigs

In this province it was a toss up should the MLA's and friends get millions for their properties while we cripple business and the economy? Because there is only so much money out there to spread around and these guys got the balk.
And now people are paying with their lives. Workers wages are frozen and Government gives itself a 38% pay increase along with benefits as it pushes women and children to the streets and elderly to catch deadly disease. Latest one whopping cough, said to be deadly along with other disease.
And RCMP leave a man to watch his wife die because they didn't feel like helping him while another encounter leaves a man dead 5 zaps later making BC a place best avoided.
Crime to go up, more deaths, more job loses while inflation takes it toll on economy. Along with more on the streets as heavy influx expected from outside the cities as desperate for jobs. What jobs?

Its A Good News Day
As Canwest goes out with the trash. Kinda like the trash they write as there wasn't a day go by they weren't busy writing about Government's inability to do the job. And since Campbell got in Mom's the word as they all go around sporting their little space cadet suit set for the Olympics.
And how are Mr. Campbell's Ministries Doing along with how big a Hole has Campbell dug for but BC who the heck would know? Not the media in this town they know nothing almost like they were paid off.
