The Hook: Political news, freshly caught

Online comments critical of Carole James cost BC New Democrat his caucus seat

VANCOUVER - A B.C. New Democrat has been kicked out of caucus for questioning his leader.

NDP leader Carole James issued a statement early Thursday morning saying Cariboo North MLA Bob Simpson is no longer a member of caucus.

James is angry about online comments made by Simpson questioning her leadership and suggesting the party is struggling with her at the helm.

She says the two spoke Wednesday night and she informed Simpson of her decision.

James believes Simpson's comments indicate he no longer wants to be part of the NDP team.

Simpson has held Cariboo North since 2005, edging Liberal candidates by about 400 votes in the 2005 and 2009 elections.
