Cyclists are feeling "stoked " for today 's launch of Bike To Work Week, say organizers.
"There's lots of excitement out and about," said Bike to Work Week program manager Erin O'Melinn. "There's tons of giveaways and great bikes that are up to win so people are really eager to start."
O'Melinn expects enrollment numbers for the event to spike today as cyclists log their first commute at checkpoints across the Lower Mainland.
More than 40 stations serviced by about 100 volunteers will offer cyclists encouragement, hot coffee, snacks and mechanical support.
Hopefully the help keeps first-time cyclists on two wheels over the seven-day stretch.
"There's going to be a lot of people trying it for the first time," O'Melinn said. "It's one of my favourite things to see because people have a hard time getting out there and then they love it."
