2010 Olympics

Another Olympic village earthquake today

I have to say, it sounds nuts over at city hall today. There’s an in-camera meeting this morning and apparently Mayor Robertson is going to make a statement/announcement right after that. It could be just my imagination, but every time I talk to someone over there, they sound exactly like those CNN reporters covering hurricanes from the centre of the storm.

Then new city manager Penny Ballem will be briefing council at a special council meeting on the Olympic village project at 2 p.m., with promises of perhaps some new information.

Undoubtedly there will be a lot of legalistic grilling, overblown rhetoric and general hysteria. And who knows what else?

It’s hard to think with one set of city storm-troopers after another coming over the barricades here.

See Frances Bula's blog for more on the Olympic village story.

Bubble within a bubble, within a bubble, within a.....

It is unlikely anyone involved in this mess knows where it will end. We have gotten rid of the completely incompetent NPA, in a few months it will be time to get rid of Mr. culpable himself, Gordon Campbell and company.

Hopefully, the powers that be will not try to cover up what is happening and who may be responsible. Honesty is the only policy left that might work.

    Gordo says" Don't blame me,

Gordo says" Don't blame me, we were not in control of the event". Sure Gordo,as a ex realtor you saw big profits and a really fancy place for the sport crowd to spend a couple of weeks . Just think of the photo op of him and a few NPA folks. Sorry about that, the NPA didn't win, almost extinguished so Gordo goes into denial mode. Hey what's a billion when the highrollers are involved, but they seem to be gone as well as the NPA

    Democratic Trust

    About The Hook

As British Columbia and other jurisdictions consider allowing online voting, can it be made secure enough that people will trust it? Will it encourage more people to vote? But if something goes wrong, will it further erode people's confidence in their democracies? And what role is the media likely to play in shaping the debate?

These are among the issues to be considered at a May 26 discussion that Fair Voting BC and PartyX are hosting at The Hive in Vancouver. I'll be on the panel, along with UBC Law's Fathima Cader and SFU computer scientist Steve Wolfman. The results and recommendations are to inform the two organizations' public positions on online voting.

Meanwhile join me and other contributors on The Hook as we bring you the latest from B.C. and across Canada.
