A look at the latest medal count at the London Olympics shows Canada may not be the greenest nation on Earth, but we are the third bronzest.
This The Tyee calculates by taking the top 30 medal winning nations and comparing their ratios of bronze medals to combined silvers and golds. In this competition Canada clearly wins a bronze. First place belongs to Brazil, achieving a 7:3 ratio (7 bronze, 1 silver, two gold). Second place goes to Ukraine, having hit an even 2:1 ratio (6 bronze, 0 silver, 3 gold). Canada gets the bronze in being bronzest by achieving a 9:5 ratio (9 bronzes, four silvers, one gold).
This of course could change at any moment but for now, if there were medals for proclivity to finish third, we definitely would have a very good chance of owning a third of that podium.
Why by the way limit the field to the top 30 medal winning nations? Because, as of now, Canada stands at number 30 on the Official London 2012 website (albeit skewed as it is towards gold medal winners in its ranking).
