The Hook: Political news, freshly caught

Tyee receives four online publishing award nominations

The Canadian Online Publishing Awards has announced its finalists, and The Tyee has received four nomination nods.

The awards recognize "Canada’s best online editorial and design work in publication websites," according to MastheadOnline, which produces the awards.

The Tyee was nominated for the category of Best News Coverage (newspapers/broadcasters), along with CBCNews, Cyberpresse, the Edmonton Journal, Nationalpost.com, the Globe and Mail news site, Thestar.com, and the Winnipeg Free Press.

Also vying for the title of Best Online-Only Site (newspapers/broadcasters), The Tyee's fellow nominees include CBCNews.ca, RedNation Online: Your Canadian Soccer Magazine, and the Vancouver Observer.

The Tyee scored two nods in the Best Online-Only Article or Series (newspapers/broadcasters). Other nominees in this category include two CBCNews.ca special reports, and the Vancouver Observer.

What's at stake?

"Along with the great prestige of being recognized as a winner of the Canadian Online Publishing Awards, winners will have perpetual bragging rites, time in the limelight, explosive traffic numbers to their website, and glares of envy from their online rivals," states the awards' prize page.

This is the third year of the online publishing awards. Winners will be announced Monday, Oct. 24 at the Gladstone Hotel in Toronto.
