Bonfire of the sweater vests

Marg Delahunty tossed a few sweater vestson to a St. John’s bonfire Monday night, in a made-for-You-Tube effort to express her the angry warrior's fiery outrage at the prospect of a Harper majority.

"So let's throw a few lousy sweater vests on the fire, because I'll tell ya, you'll get more warmth out of that than you'll ever get out of that iceberg of a prime minister," Delahunty said in the video.

Actor Mary Walsh, who created the character for This Hour has 22 Minutes, told reporters her fire video wasn’t specifically aimed at recent arts cuts, but had more to do with Harper’s “one-man” style of government and his attempt to project a “family-friendly” image by wearing a vest.

    Go, Marg, Go!

I wish Marg was in the leaders' debate.

    About The Hook

As British Columbia and other jurisdictions consider allowing online voting, can it be made secure enough that people will trust it? Will it encourage more people to vote? But if something goes wrong, will it further erode people's confidence in their democracies? And what role is the media likely to play in shaping the debate?

These are among the issues to be considered at a May 26 discussion that Fair Voting BC and PartyX are hosting at The Hive in Vancouver. I'll be on the panel, along with UBC Law's Fathima Cader and SFU computer scientist Steve Wolfman. The results and recommendations are to inform the two organizations' public positions on online voting.

Meanwhile join me and other contributors on The Hook as we bring you the latest from B.C. and across Canada.
