EDMONTON - The government of Alberta has opened its books on the oil sands.
A new information portal combines data from four ministries and five agencies.
Researchers have long complained that information on the industry is too hard to get and too expensive to compile.
The new database won't include information that companies consider private, something critics have long asked for.
But it will provide fast answers on everything from greenhouse gas emissions to oil production to land disturbance.
The information is available at osip.alberta.ca.
