Premier Christy Clark has reminded B.C. Liberal party members they don't have to look too far to see the results of a fractured vote.
Clark says NDP premiers Glen Clark, Mike Harcourt and Dave Barrett were all elected when right-of-centre voters split their allegiance.
She urged 1,600 supporters attending the annual Premier's Dinner Wednesday night in Vancouver not to be wooed away by a revitalized B.C. Conservative party.
Clark says retired federal Conservative party heavyweights Stockwell Day and Chuck Strahl support her government, and she is appealing to the Liberal right wing by hiring former Canfor and Finning CEO Jim Shepard as a special adviser.
The premier also took aim at new NDP Leader Adrian Dix, telling party faithful at the fundraising dinner that Dix is leading New Democrats back to the days of promises they can never keep.
Dix is campaigning to axe B.C.'s harmonized sales tax but Clark insists not only will that plan cost the province billions of dollars, she says it will saddle every family with higher taxes.
