BC Liberal leadership candidates all support HST

All six Liberal leadership candidates say they support the HST, as they lay out their plans for the province's future for business leaders.

The candidates are gathered at a sold out B.C. Chamber of Commerce meeting where they're weighing in on issues such as transportation, energy policy and taxes.

All of them say they support the controversial tax and agree that more information needs to get out to the public before a referendum on the levy later this year.

But Moira Stilwell says chamber members and the rest of B.C. free enterprise has to take on the job of selling the tax it wants to keep.

Christy Clark told the crowd that the public felt left out of the HST conversation, and if the Liberals are going to win the next election they are going to have to show the government is listening.

Kevin Falcon and Mike de Jong both agree the public needs more information about the HST before next September's referendum.

    Listening

Something the Liberals know nothing about is listening. Telling the public that they need to listen is something they are very good at.

They will continue to push their crooked agenda down our throats until the day we tell them to piss off!
Don't blow it in the next election or god help us!

    Get rid of these bums!

Boring and weird. Maybe boring + weird = really really ...stupid.

They Still Avoided The Truth About The HST

Sorry BC Liberals but I am not voting for any of your MLA's. Why?, under the Campbell administration BC saw not only higher taxes, BC railgate, The complete and utter demise of social services and no poverty reduction plan or the like. I cannot vote for a party that puts business first instead of the many hardworking people who run and work in those businesses. I honestly just don't believe the BC Liberals and any voter that has been paying attention won't vote for these folks either. So far both parties have not said all that much about any plan or direction or what any potential leader would want or do. I give credit to Mike Farnsworth for his open style of discussion and I like the fact that both Mike and Adrian want a better BC for all, not just the corporations, or the wealthy etc. I still think that poverty is the number 1 issue in BC and I honestly hope that both parties get moving on a devloping and implementing a plan to help those in need, either with housing, better access to health/addiction services and revamping social assistance. This is the cornerstone of a healthy society. Whomever wins has a major challenge ahead of them but by throwing more money at tax cuts, extra holidays in Feb etc will result in MORE cuts to those most in need. After a decade of Campbell the next government had better pay attention to fixing ministries that GC ignored, like Familes & Children, Welfare and Housing.

    Fiberals

In the past 10 years the Fiberals have done nothing but erode our province they tell you one thing and do the opposite. BC Rail for instance they sell it off oh sorry lease it for 999 years isn't that the same as selling anyways and keep the head of BC Rail fat cats on our payroll to run 30 kilometers of rail. Then they tell us more lies and do the opposite. Who can believe anything that comes out of their mouths. NOT ME that is for sure. Before the HST came in I was breaking even every month now I am paying out more than I am bringing in now tell me how the HST helps us I can only see another 8 hour job for 8.00 per hour scabby wages for the working poor of this province while the government fat cats reap all the benefits that our fore fathers fought and died for.

    Democratic Trust

    About The Hook

As British Columbia and other jurisdictions consider allowing online voting, can it be made secure enough that people will trust it? Will it encourage more people to vote? But if something goes wrong, will it further erode people's confidence in their democracies? And what role is the media likely to play in shaping the debate?

These are among the issues to be considered at a May 26 discussion that Fair Voting BC and PartyX are hosting at The Hive in Vancouver. I'll be on the panel, along with UBC Law's Fathima Cader and SFU computer scientist Steve Wolfman. The results and recommendations are to inform the two organizations' public positions on online voting.

Meanwhile join me and other contributors on The Hook as we bring you the latest from B.C. and across Canada.
