Anti-crime group backs Gordo's gang, plus Huntington

A citizen’s group premised on tough action for violent crime has endorsed 18 candidates across party lines for the May 12 vote.

The list pushes 11 BC Liberals hopefuls but isn’t a sweeping endorsement of the ruling party. Enough is Enough sent a crime-themed survey to all Lower Mainland contenders and used the results to make its decision.

"We encourage all voters who are concerned about crime to vote for these candidates next Tuesday," spokesperson Keith Roy said in a press release.

High profile Liberals running with the group’s blessing include housing minister Rich Coleman, transportation minister Kevin Falcon and former West Vancouver Police Chief Kash Heed.

But attorney-general Wally Oppal didn’t make the grade. The group urged voters to support his Independent challenger for Delta South, Vicki Huntington.

"She is the best choice to defeat the Attorney General who cut prosecutors in the middle of a gang war," Enough is Enough argues, referring to cost-saving measures in the February budget.

Two candidates each from the New Democratic Party, the Green Party and the Conservative Party round out the list.

Enough is Enough recently gave sub par grades to Gordon Campbell’s and Carole James’ crime strategies. The group appears to think the answer to Metro Vancouver’s gangland troubles lies in tougher sentencing and 900 more police officers for the region.

In February, former Supreme Court Judge Oppal argued harsh sentences don’t deter criminals.

    Now Isn't That A Crime

Because thats what God's done for BC, make a happening place for crime. And for that you get endorsed for guaranteeing people are so struggling that they are forced to do crime? Now isn't that a crime? Fairs are set to increase while salaries for the struggling are frozen. Good Grief Says Batman? As struggling mayor gets ticketed on the sky train? Oh I'm sorry did I say God of course my meant Gordo but around here its the same thing.

Looking for 40 more sky train employee's

as starting salaries at $50,000 for catching the working poor and youth as they cannot afford to live in this God forsaken town or so they say? Its how you feel when you do 40 and still get the sidewalk. Try it and see how you feel in the morning when you show up to work smelling like you came out of toilet? Now isn't that a crime? I thought so but not the crime busters cause they are a happening place as policing and security business booming. Now where is the fun in that. Did you know there is a real shortage of skilled labor but Campbell refused to promote training? And look we have people who aren't eating properly and working and this is good for business? See confusing in this new way of doing business starve the poor and feed the rich.
And here they said don't feed the animals?

    Another Crime

Where would you be without your workers?
    Thats right out of business.
Want to stop crime quit promoting by leaving people without enough to live and then call it a crime. And lets promote the little guy for a change because they are the one's who are going to pull this country throught as usual. Fact Sm business responsible for sales increase as Feds happily announce. Not so much in BC because land developers grabbed all the cash and there is only so much money to spread around. Another crime as business pays through the nose making it hard to compete along with quality workman ship?
    Another crime for Batman?

    About The Hook

Have you noticed all the "game-changing" in the news recently?

Premier Christy Clark's plan to build two liquified natural gas export facilities in B.C.? "Game changer."

Former ICBC president Robyn Allan's damning report on the economic risks of Northern Gateway? "Game changer."

Mitt Romney's new debate coach? The coming Nintendo console? Kickstarter?

    All "game-changers," my friends.

Are we on the cusp of some serious status-quo shake-up, or something? This week, count on The Tyee to scope out and debunk the latest game changers -- whatever that means -- here in B.C. and beyond. -- Robyn Smith
