Greens, NDP and Libs to run full slates

The B.C. Green Party will run a full slate this election -- with a candidate in each of the 85 ridings -- and so will the Liberals and NDP. The Conservative Party will run 23 candidates.

Candidate nominations for the May 12 election closed yesterday. Elections BC says there are 346 candidates in total, representing 15 political parties. For a full list of candidates, go here.

Among B.C.'s lesser-known parties, The Sex Party and Communist Party are each running three candidates; The Work Less Party will run two; and the Marijuana Party one.

    Greenies are Gordo

The liberals are running two candidates in each riding - the official one and the Green party sidekick who is there to suck the vote out of low information progressive voters that are attracted by the Green name.

Sterk turns out to be a Alberta neocon supporter who was such a "green" person she voted consistently for the Tar Sands party. Who better to lie to fools who think the Green party is actually "green"

Reminds me of the Neocon tactic in the Sam Sullivan election where the Cons got Jim Green Two to run against the progressive choice Jim Green thereby splitting enough of the vote for the fascists to take the mayors chair.

How come the BC Refed Party

How come the BC Refed Party isn't mentioned? As of April 24th they're running candidates in 22 ridings.

    Wrong, Seth

Who said Jim Green was progressive? He sold out big time.

There were voters who weren't fooled by the name switcheroo but voted for the other guy just to watch Jim 'Vision' Green weep when he lost.

    Conservatives will make gains.

In 2005 the conservative party took in
9623 votes for only 0.55% of all votes
    cast.
This election they have more candidates,
but more importantly they have a relevant
    message for centre-right voters. Poor
management in many projects; even lying
about real costs leave the BCliberals
    on defence.
    The 23 conservative candidates could
have 5% in the popular vote. This may
    surprise the liberals.

More NDP hackery trying to claim green voters as their natural right.

Let me tell you something Seth - I'm 28, politically active, and hold an honours degree in political science. Am I a 'low information progressive voter?'

I support the greens because they are the only ones pushing a serious environmental agenda AND electoral reform.

When the NDP starts actually speaking to voters like me, perhaps we'll listen.

Actually its better for the NDP for there to be 3 parties instead of 2. With the NDP being the only social justice party they have a better chance of coming up the middle between two parties that are trying to woo the same voters.

Of course, with this new dynamic it would be better for pro-STV guys like me to vote against it.

    Wrong Midnightsimon

The Greens are sandbagging the election......

Jodie Emery(Green) yesterday on Christie Clark show, with Gabriel YUI (NDP) and Kash Heed (Liberal)......
Christie Clark asked Jodie Emery who had a better enviromental platform the BC Liberals or the NDP..Jodie answered "The BC Liberals" and she never mentioned the Green platform.

A paramedic called in and asked the 3 parties about getting a decent wage rate for striking paramedics....

Jodie Emery responded " We all have to make sacrifices, and we don`t believe in wage increases"

Another caller asked about the minimum wage and Jodie Emery responded " We don`t believe in raising minimum wages"

Yet the Greens are calling for legal drugs,150$ a ton carbon tax(15 times the present carbon tax)and to get rid of the RCMP.........
The Greens are going to lose 50% of their vote or more.

The Greens are SILENT on fish farms, the Greens are silent on gas flaring, and Jodie Emery states........

"we don`t believe in raising minimum wage, the BC Liberals have a better enviromental plan, paramedics deserve nothing,we all have to sacrifice"

Yet I didn`t hear Jodie Emery offering to work for less money than the 100 thousand plus MLAs get!

Sorry Simon, the Greens are sandbagging,it`s a real shame that the upper echelon of the Green party are looking for BC Liberal goverment jobs!

The good news is.......The NDP are going to slam dunk the election and win......

If you don`t believe me listen to the cknw audio vault

    Lib/Green conspiracy theories

Well Frank a three party system like Iceland's might work with first past the post if the parties were evenly divided. The Greens however are generally viewed as progressive and don't attract any of Gordo's neocon vote but a lot of the NDP's. Leads to a permanent NeoCon dynasty.

I'm wondering now that Jane "Tar Sand" Sterk's Alberta conservative background has been revealed, is it possible that she was a simple plant by the BC (neocon) Liberals to take over the Green party. She does kind of look like a somebodies mom who is mad about something all the time. Scary.

And midnightsimon you must be a low Information voter, if you really support a serious environmental agenda and vote green because the Liberals who you are defacto voting for have a serious hate on for the environment. Perhaps next election if STV passes the Green's might be worth a look but obviously not now. I find it utterly incredible you could pass polysci 101 and not know that.

The spreading of misinformation runs rampant on this site. Thank you NDP supporters. With people like you, the NDP needs no enemies.

Green Party policy is to phase out open net fish farms over ten years. The NDP "moratorium" in the 90's allowed fish farms to grow by 2-3 times.

Green Party policy initiates a guaranteed annual income.

Green Party policy prohibits gas flaring.

If you can only spread lies, you should change your name to pinocchio.

    salmon

green party policy on the salmon-take ten years to do it.

This is rubbish. There wont be any f'ing salmon left in 10 years. Then what will be the point of eliminating open net farming?

Speaking of lies, the Greens promise a lot, but where's the costing? Where do I look to find the dollar figures of each of their promises?

Because when the rubber hits the road and they can't deliver everything they promise many of us wonder what are the real priorities?

  • Frank

    By the way

During the debate the Green leader spent her time attacking the NDP, not the incumbent.

One can only assume she agrees more with Liberal policy than she does NDP policy.

    Sterk defends Liberal policy

I especially liked this line :

"James in turn attacked Campbell's economic record, saying the province had lost 80,000 jobs in the last three months and that his economic recovery plan was not working.

The Green leader seized on that point to attack James, saying it was "crazy to blame the premier for the loss of the jobs," that was the result of a global economic downturn."

    http://www.cbc.ca/canada/bcvotes2009/story/2009/04/23/bc-leaders-radio-debate.html

So there you have it, in spite of BC leading Canada in job losses its not Campbell's fault according to the Greens.

    @Politics as usual

I left the audio vault(go listen)--Was Jodie Emery to "spaced" out to talk, listen to the whole 1.00 pm to 2.00 pm aprli 24th debate.

She said what she said, quote "We all have make sacrifices"
Qoute " We won`t raise minimum wage"

    Quote "Paramedics are paid enough"

Quote "everyone wants more money,we don`t believe in growth"

Quote "The BC Liberals have a better enviromental platform"

Quote "We need to legalize drugs"

The Greens,Jane Sterk didn`t mention fish farms during the debate, and a 10 year window,no wonder she is silent,...

Jane Sterk agreed with Campbell about job losses by raising minimum wages.Jane Sterk played possum in the debates.....

She praised Campbell,....Jane Sterk mentioned liveable wage on the debates, but she didn`t clarify what that means.....

Sterk mocked the NDP about raising minimum wage and 50 thousand job losses, but she didn`t mention the 16.00$ per hour wage she is talking about(how many job losses will that cause)

Jane Sterk was playing NDP BAD -Campbell good--

The Greens are sandbagging,150.00$ a ton carbon tax --In fact the Green platform is so bad that..........

Tzeporah Berman,David Suzuki,Pembina institute, forest ethics, conservation voters are telling everyone to vote for Gordon Campbell......
I don`t hear Jane Sterk criticizing Suzuki,Berman for endorsing Campbell do I ?

Jane Sterk should shout from the rafters that the BC Liberals are an enviromental disaster, but she won`t,she is silent.....

    Jodie Emery is silent,POLITICSASUSUAL.....

The Greens have lost their way, sandbagging,Sterk has her marching orders, make Gordon Campbell GREEN.....

The greens movement will suffer losses of all their gains they made in recent years....
Just like LIZZY MAY in the federal election, she was prepared to throw her entire platform out the window for a cabinet or senate seat.......

Green movement is about green money...Suzuki/Berman/Sterk/May have lost all credibilty.

    Untrue quotes attributed to me

"Campbellwearsatutu" claims that I stated the quotes he listed, but they are absolutely untrue and are not direct quotes from me at all.

I'm even more surprised that he posts a link to the audio vault where people can listen to the debate and discover I never say any of the quotes "Campbellwearsatutu" attributes to me, yet he goes on -- a second time -- to give "quote" statements that are nowhere to be found in that very interview (or anywhere else).

I recommend curious voters listen to the entire CKNW radio debate so they can hear what I actually said (Friday, April 24th at 1pm), and advise people to look at the BC Green Party platform at www.BCGreens.com ("The Green Book") and view my own website at www.JodieForMLA.ca if they want to know where the BC Greens Party and I stand on various issues.

Let's have an honest, fair and friendly election! :)
