Tyee Poll: Should We Lower the Voting Age to 16?

Should 16 year olds vote?

The idea has gained traction over the years and received more attention over the weekend, when delegates at the BC NDP convention voted in favour of lowering the voting age to 16 — a big win for advocates.

Olamide Olaniyan wrote about the resolution and B.C. teenagers who have been pushing the province to lower the voting age.

Lowering the voting age to 16 has support from various levels of government and various parts of the ideological spectrum. It’s also been implemented by other countries like Austria, Scotland and now most recently Wales.

We’re wondering what our readers think. What do you think of the idea to lower the voting age to 16?
