On May 20, a crowdfunding campaign started to fund a new, bilingual publishing venture called Ricochet. Here's the description from their funding page:
"Media concentration, layoffs, advertising so pervasive it becomes the content: the world of journalism is in crisis. From the cuts at CBC to the restructuring of big newspapers, this crisis weakens our democracy and leaves control of information in the hands of a few media conglomerates.
"Ricochet is an audacious response to a difficult context. Independent and in the public interest, Ricochet will provide a space dedicated to investigative journalism and high-profile opinion. Published in two distinct editions, English and French, Ricochet will illuminate the cultural and political diversity of this country."
If you think Canada needs more of independent media, check out their plans here.
