Win Tickets to Acclaimed Dolphin Doc

We're giving away 40 pairs of tickets to the premiere of 'The Cove.'

In the 1960s, Richard O'Barry worked on the set of the hit TV show Flipper. O'Barry, one of the world's leading authorities on dolphin training, was responsible for capturing the five dolphins to play Flipper. One day, everything changed -- for O'Barry and the dolphins he admired so much.

These changes are shockingly displayed in The Cove -- an acclaimed documentary premiering in Vancouver on August 13th. And The Tyee is giving away tickets.

The Cove, brought to us by director Louie Psihoyos, tells the true story of how Psihoyos, O'Barry and a team of activists and free-divers embarked on a mission to unearth the truth about how dolphins are acquired for human use. Finding a hidden cove in Japan, the team reveals a horrific secret. Under the cover of night, fishermen driven by a multi-billion dollar dolphin entertainment industry and a demand for mercury-tainted dolphin meat, engage in a hunt. The reality of what occurs is so chilling -- and the consequences are so dangerous -- that they will go to great lengths to keep us from witnessing it.

This film has already won more than 11 major awards, including The Audience Award at Sundance, The Audience Award at HotDocs Film Festival, the Golden Space Needle at Seattle International Film Festival, and Best in Festival from Blue Ocean Film Festival.

Special Guests Distinguish Film's Vancouver Premiere

An additional treat -- world-renowned Vancouver free-divers Mandy-Rae Cruickshank and Kirk Krack, who made filming this documentary possible, will participate in a Q&A after the premiere.

Can't make it to the premiere? Don't worry. There's an advance screening on Aug. 12th that will also include a Q&A session. Tickets $20 here. Proceeds donated to Performance Freediving International.
