New year-round Victoria Public Market at the Hudson opens its doors!

This Saturday, Sept. 14th, the historic Hudson building on Douglas St. will open its doors to the hotly anticipated Victoria Public Market at the Hudson.

The Tyee is proud to be an online media sponsor for their opening. It starts at 10 a.m. and features a welcome from drum troop Standing Nations, live music, cooking demonstrations by chefs in the Vancity-sponsored community kitchen, fun for kids and more.

The market will serve as a year-round hub for island-grown, fished, husbanded and processed products, serving the needs of downtown shoppers and food-loving tourists alike.

Permanent vendors will share space with a rotating cast of farmers and small-scale food producers renting daily spaces. In addition, every Wednesday from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m., a special farmers' market will highlight local produce.

But the market is also about more than daily food-based commerce. It will play host to educational and networking events through the year, its community kitchen will be available to local food entrepreneurs and community groups, and the market can be rented out for special events.

For information about opening day, permanent vendors, regular hours and more visit the Victoria Public Market website.
