Hina Imam

Hina Imam is supporter engagement manager at The Tyee.

She is also a multimedia journalist, writer, media facilitator and educator. Her work is rooted in anti-oppression and intersectionality with an emphasis on decolonial media practices. She is a big fan of independent journalism and believes fostering care and community are the only ways to survive.

Imam is interested in culture and art storytelling through a social justice lens with a focus on migration politics, race and representation, gender and sexuality issues and labour rights. Her writing has appeared in the Walrus, Xtra Magazine, the Globe and Mail, CBC, The Tyee, Roads and Kingdoms and more.

Previously, Imam was the spoken word manager at CiTR 101.9 FM where she gained extensive experience mentoring youth and teaching them audio storytelling. She has also given several guest lectures on media ethics.

She lives on the traditional, ancestral and unceded territories of the Musqueam, Squamish, Tsleil-Waututh nations, also known as Vancouver.
