Keen to help independent media flourish? The fierce fish wants to hear from you.

With a brand-spanking-new article page design and a team of journalists extraordinaire, The Tyee is now looking to add two people to our Vancouver office to help grow our revenues and keep our office humming like a well-oiled machine.

We have immediate openings for a full-time sales and partnerships co-ordinator, and a part-time office administrator.

Since 2003, The Tyee has published original stories about British Columbia and Canada’s news, culture and solutions to pressing issues. Our reporting has won many awards and the respect of our peers and readers. While some journalism gives the last word to power, we try to give the last word to ordinary folks.

The Tyee is a small and scrappy team of writers, editors and entrepreneurial thinkers. We don’t put our articles behind a paywall, and we’re committed to paying our contributors. So where does the money come from? A variety of sources including ad sales and promotional partnerships with groups that are a good fit for our readership.

The sales and partnership co-ordinator will support The Tyee’s operations by securing advertising and promotional contracts with clients and identifying potential sponsorship opportunities. The co-ordinator will be responsible for implementing all aspects of advertising deals, from start to finish. Working closely with other colleagues, you’ll brainstorm creative ways to support our business operations in a rapidly changing industry.

Moreover, you:

Primary responsibilities include:

Position is full time, Vancouver-based. Compensation depends on experience, but is a blend of salary and performance bonus.

The office administrator will be responsible for overseeing the operations and financial management of The Tyee. You’ll work closely with the business office to manage the budget, keep tabs on cash flow and make sure all of our t’s and i’s are dotted and/or crossed. You have experience in managing business financials and can consult with our management team on best practices, and have a knack for creating great systems for keeping everything on track.

Moreover, you:

Primary responsibilities include:

Position is part time (20 hours/week), Vancouver-based. Compensation depends on experience.

Please submit your cover letter and resume explaining why you are interested in either one of these opportunities to [email protected]. Please put either "sales and partnerships co-ordinator position" or "office administrator position" in the subject line. The deadline for applications is Aug. 15, 2016.

We recognize the importance of a diverse workforce and encourage applications from Aboriginal people, members of a visible minority and people with a disability.

If you’re creative, hard-working and love independent media, we’d love to meet you. [Tyee]
