Tyee Poll: Should Jenny Kwan Resign?
Last week, in the wake of an audit of the Portland Hotel Society that showed Jenny Kwan and her husband were compensated for more than $30K in travel expenses, Kwan announced in a tearful news conference that her husband said, at the time, that he paid for the travel from his personal funds. She also said she's going to pay the money back and is taking a leave of absence from her job as MLA for the Downtown Eastside. The Portland Hotel Society is a non-profit organization that manages government-owned hotels in the Downtown Eastside, as well as a number of other programs for the homeless and disadvantaged.
In the same week, Alison Redford resigned as premier in Alberta. She did so after, as the CBC reported, she announced she was paying back the entire $45,000 she spent on first-class tickets and a government plane to travel to South Africa for Nelson Mandela's memorial in December after weeks of refusing to do so.
